Following the revelation that two unrelated parts of Donald Trump’s speech were merged on Panorama, the BBC management took responsibility and resigned
General Manager BBC Tim Davey and News Executive Deborah Ternes submitted resignations because a speech by US President Donald Trump was maliciously edited in the public service program “Panorama”, suggesting that he directly invited his supporters to storm the Congress building.
In his speech in Washington on January 6, 2021, Trump said: “We will go to the Capitol and we will cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and congresswomen.”
However, on Panorama, it read: “We’re going to the Capitol and I’m going to be there with you. And we’re going to fight, we’re going to fight like hell.”
The two parts of the speech that were merged into one sentence in Trump’s original speech were more than 50 minutes apart.
The “we’re going to fight like hell” comment was taken from a piece in which Trump talked about how “corrupt” the US election was and did not refer to what was happening in the Capitol at the time.
