An N1 reporter was roughly detained when she tried to ask United Group CEO Stan Miller a question at a Belgrade hotel on Wednesday evening.

Reporter Ana Novakovic approached the UG CEO at the hotel’s dinning room to ask him for a comment on reports of his meetings with the state-controlled Telekom Serbia to discuss the dismissal of United Media CEO Aleksandra Subotic at the demand of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic whose regime wants to shut down the N1 and Nova S independent TV stations and portals.

Novakovic was roughly manhandled by Millers security guards and hotel staff who called the police.

Miller is in Belgrade with United Group senior managers Ioannis Papatsikas (head of security), Libor Voščina, Janez Videmšek, Bernarda Trebušak Jecl and Janez Živko. None of them reacted to the way the N1 crew were treated.

Novakovic talked to lawyers from the Gecic law firm for an hour and a half and refused to delete the video before she was allowed to leave the hotel. The head of hotel security threatened to call the police and sue her for what he claimed was unauthorized recording. Novakovic told him that she wanted a statement from the United Group CEO and did not want to send requests for comments because a journalist’s job is to ask questions of people involved in events.
