Vijesti TV journalist Petar Komnenic has been banned from entering Serbia in what looks like a tit-for-tat response by official Belgrade to Podgorica’s ban on a pro-regime tabloid owner.
The Montenegrin authorities banned Informer tabloid and TV owner Dragan J. Vucicevic from entering the country after the country’s electronic media regulator found his TV promoted hate speech and discrimination against the Montenegrin national identity.
Komnenic said he was told he would not be allowed into Serbia at a border crossing as he returned home. He said he entered Serbia a few days earlier without incident. He criticised both Belgrade and Podgorica, saying measures targeting journalists or media figures could turn into tools against dissent instead of addressing sources of disinformation and political pressure.
Speaking earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said the ban on Vucicevic was a “big mistake” and warned that Serbia could introduce reciprocal measures.
