Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath said the latest threats and attacks against journalists and civil society organizations raise alarm, noting that they operate in difficult environment, facing increasing pressure, which hinders their work.
“As a key watchdog of accountability and democracy, it is of utmost importance to ensure them an enabling environment,” von Beckerath wrote in a post on the X social media platform.
He added that the importance of creating an enabling environment for civil society and media are key elements for Serbia’s path towards EU membership and is also highlighted in the European Commission’s 2025 report.
