Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Wednesday that he accepted an invitation from Sandro Gozi, the Secretary General of the European Democratic Party (EDP), for a debate on N1 TV.

“I accept with enthusiasm, on N1 TV of all places. I trust they will send us an invitation. If they fail to do so, it will prove that both Mr. Gozi and the people at N1 are liars, which I don’t believe to be the case. It is impossible that Gozi is a liar. So, I am inviting him, I am ready to appear on N1 TV,” Vucic told reporters following a meeting with Serbia’s military top brass and the leadership of Republika Srpska at the Banjica 2 barracks in Belgrade.

The Serbian president urged Gozi to propose a date, adding that, if necessary, he would reschedule even important state visits abroad to attend the televised debate.

Gozi on Tuesday called Vucic to a debate on N1 TV, responding to the president’s verbal assault on the EDP and its leaders in a Monday evening interview on the Serbian state TV (RTS). The EDP said Tuesday that Vucic’s remarks followed a social media post published by the EDP asking a political question: “Who will be the next autocrat to fall after Viktor Orban?,” referencing several leaders including President Vucic.

“Enough monologues, Mr. Vucic, come to N1 and face a real debate,” Gozi wrote in a post on the social media platform X on Tuesday.
