Vucic in Seville again on N1: No one’s ever cut their cables, stopped their broadcasts – we could do that in five minutes

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he has no complaints about the European Commission’s (EC) recent statement on events in Serbia, a departure from his previous criticisms.

Speaking in Seville, Vucic responded to a reporter’s question about an EC spokesperson’s call for an investigation into excessive use of force by law enforcement, noting that the EC’s statement was far more balanced than some media outlets suggested.

“He didn’t say they would launch some grand investigation, but ask questions and look into what happened. The rest of the statement was much fairer, not calling for anyone to fight against elected authorities or anything like that. You only read what N1 reports because you don’t like to check other media,” said Vucic.

Asked to comment on a claim by Zeljko Bodrozic, president of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS), that Vucic was “inciting prosecutor Nenad Stefanovic to storm N1 and Nova S television stations with police,” Vucic dismissed the accusation:

“We have no intention of doing that. Those people have done a lot of harm to our country many lies, many falsehoods and dirty tactics aimed at tearing Serbia down. But I never did that, no one’s ever cut their cables, disrupted their work, arrested them, or shut down their broadcasts. We could do that in five minutes. We have no intention of doing that, we never did,” said Vucic,

In an earlier statement from Seville, Vucic labeled N1 and Nova journalists as “terrorists.”
