Although there is no official explanation, part-time employees of RTS who were left without engagement believe that the reason for this is the letter they signed, in which objective reporting of RTS is requested
Journalist Milena Milošević, part-time associate at Radio-television of Serbia, is one of ten employees at public service with the same status, which were not extended the cooperation agreement at the beginning of July, without any explanation.
Although there is no official explanation, since it is not necessary in case the employer decides not to extend the contract with part-time employees, they all have in common that they signed an open letter addressed to the editorial board of RTS at the end of March, in which objective reporting of the Public Service was requested.
“The decision not to extend my part-time cooperation was not supported by any explanation. I have been working for 10 years as a part-time employee at RTS and there was no objective reason related to my work or achievement for my contract not to be extended,” Milošević told Vreme.
They only told her that General Director Dragan Bujošević returned her contract without explanation.
Milošević points out that many of Radio Belgrade’s newsrooms function thanks to part-time employees who are an integral part of the newsroom and says:
“We are not co-workers who contribute a little, but we come to work regularly and the same is expected of us as full-time employees.”
“Magical Reason”
She assesses that the only explanation for such behavior of the RTS management could be that she, together with other colleagues and part-time collaborators, signed an open letter requesting objective reporting by the Public Service.
“Among the part-time collaborators at Radio Belgrade 2, I was the only one who signed that open letter, and for some magical reason, I was the only one whose contract was not extended,” concludes Milošević.
The Association of Journalists of Serbia protested about the case of RTS workers, and the group of RTS employees “Naš pRoTeSt” announced that it is planning the next steps in solidarity with colleagues with whom cooperation has been terminated, but that it will not reveal them publicly yet.
Winner of numerous awards
Milena Milošević is the winner of numerous awards.
She won three awards at international festivals dealing with documentary creation, one of which was this year, but despite that, she was denied a contract extension.
She is also the author of numerous documentary reports in the series “Speak to see you”, and some of those reports have also received international awards.
In addition, a documentary film should be broadcast on RTS in the fall, in which she is one of the main actors.
