IJAS: New threats against Marko Vidojković and Nenad Kulačin, those responsible must be sanctioned urgently

The Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (IJAS) strongly condemns the new threats directed at Marko Vidojković and Nenad Kulačin, authors and hosts of the show “Dobar, loš, zao”, which were posted via the show’s YouTube channel.

According to available information, a user under the account name “rajkokomlenac8474” left a threatening comment stating: “These fools deserve a bullet and some bombs.” IJAS assesses that such messages constitute a direct incitement to violence and seriously endanger the safety of journalists, as well as the public’s right to be informed.

IJAS recalls that Kulačin and Vidojković have been subjected for years to continuous threats and targeted smear campaigns. Despite numerous reports, the lack of effective institutional responses and adequate judicial outcomes creates an atmosphere of impunity, which encourages new attacks and fuels further escalation.

Such threats are increasingly being made through digital platforms, where violent content spreads easily and perpetrators often rely on anonymity and slow institutional reactions.

IJAS calls on the competent prosecutor’s office and the Ministry of the Interior to act without delay upon the report, identify the person who issued the threat, and take all measures provided by law, bearing in mind the continuity and seriousness of the threats to which Marko Vidojković and Nenad Kulačin have been exposed.

We stress that death threats and calls for violence are neither “comments” nor “criticism,” but criminal offences that require a clear and swift institutional response. Any delay or downplaying of such messages emboldens perpetrators and increases the risk that verbal violence will escalate into physical attacks.

IJAS expresses solidarity with Marko Vidojković and Nenad Kulačin and will continue to monitor this case and insist on institutional accountability, because journalists’ safety is not a private matter of individuals, but a fundamental prerequisite for media freedom and the public’s right to timely and truthful information.
