United Media’s former CEO Aleksandra Subotic said her goodbyes to the company and its media outlets in a Linkedin post in which she expressed pride in everything achieved during her tenure but adding that environment has changed.
She said that she is moving forwards after 13 years “leading and building United Media” which, she added, “is no longer the company we created”. Subotic said that the “environment has fundamentally shifted” following leadership changes in United Group. “A culture that once fostered trust, ambition, and independence has, in my view, been replaced by one that promotes fear, uncertainty, and a departure from the core values we stood for,” she wrote.
“Most importantly, in certain markets, particularly Serbia, the commitment to media freedom, an essential pillar of any credible media organization, has been undermined. This is not something I can stand behind. I fought to protect these principles for as long as I could, but ultimately, the influence of those in power prevailed,” Subotic wrote.
“This journey has been defined by growth, success, and a strong sense of purpose. Together with exceptional colleagues and top professionals, we built a company grounded in excellence, integrity, and clear values. I am sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed to making United Media what it once was,” she wrote and expressed her gratitude to the company’s 4,200 employees in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Greece. “Your professionalism, high standards, and commitment were the foundation of our success, and I am confident you will continue to excel,” she added.
“I leave with pride in what we achieved, confident that you will continue to protect our legacy and stand strong in service of your audiences,” Subotic said in the Linkedin post.
