Journalist and producer Branislav Sovljanski is taking over the leadership of the N1 newsroom, where he has worked since its founding.

“I accepted, at a particularly delicate moment for society, and especially for independent media, to take on a leading role in the N1 newsroom, a media outlet I have built together with my colleagues from the very beginning. I am convinced that both our audience and our critics will very quickly see that N1 remains committed to professional journalism, perhaps even more so than before, as we are entering a serious and demanding period. We have always performed best under pressure,” Sovljanski emphasized.

He added that N1 will continue to operate in the public interest, asking difficult but necessary questions to decision-makers, as well as to those aspiring to those positions, regardless of the pressure and attention such work brings. “Our viewers can continue, as they always have, to turn to N1 when they want to highlight issues or raise questions of public importance. There is a lot of work ahead of us, and we are fully focused on that.”

In a statement, Adria News Network announced that Branislav Sovljanski has been appointed to an interim leadership position at N1.

“Branislav brings significant experience and a strong understanding of N1’s editorial operations, newsroom structure, and professional standards. He will be responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the newsroom and will work closely with editorial and management teams. N1 remains committed to providing its newsroom with the leadership, structures, and support needed to deliver high-quality journalism,” Adria News stated.

Branislav Sovljanski has been working in journalism for twenty years. He has worked as a reporter, editor, news anchor, desk editor, and executive producer at N1. He has been part of the N1 team since its founding, where he created and launched most of the programs that are still on air today.

He has edited and hosted pre-election debates, interviews with presidential candidates, as well as programs during election nights. He set standards and led teams of editors and reporters in creating the “breaking news” programming for which N1 has become widely recognized.

He has reported from numerous crisis and war zones both in the country and abroad, including reporting for CNN on the 2014 floods in Obrenovac, the terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015 and 2016, the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, and the war in the Middle East in 2023 and 2024. He was also N1’s reporter at the first inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump in 2017.

He is the author of the show “360 Degrees,” through which he conducted hundreds of interviews and debates, featuring some of the most prominent public figures from across social and political life over more than seven years of broadcasting.

He graduated in Journalism as part of the first generation of students in that program at the Department of Media Studies, Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, in 2009.

He is part of the team of journalists who received the New York Press Club Award in 2014 for investigative journalism.
