The Basic Court in the city of Sabac issued a first-instance ruling finding Zoran Cvetanovic guilty of repeatedly harassing, insulting, provoking and assaulting journalist Nenad Kulacin in public places across the city between 2023 and 2025, the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) said on Thursday.
“The harassment took place over a long period, culminating when Cvetanovic attempted to punch me, on top of all the verbal abuse he was hurling. I called Veran Matic, who told me to report the incident to the police immediately while he contacted the liaison point at the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office,” Kulacin told ANEM.
He added that both the police and the Prosecutor’s Office acted quickly, leading to Cvetanovic being detained and questioned.
“Both reacted very swiftly, the assailant was brought in and interviewed. I can say I am satisfied with the efficient response from the authorities, which, unfortunately, is not the case with many other threats. Those often remain unpunished,” Kulacin said.
Veran Matic, Chairman of the ANEM Board, coordinator of the Safe Line for Journalists, and member of the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists, noted that this is the first first-instance verdict of 2026 regarding attacks on media representatives.
“It is extremely important that every threat, as well as harassment or stalking as in this case, is reported to the contact points at associations or to the ANEM SOS hotline (Safe Line: 0800 100 115). This is the only way we can do everything in our power to prevent further safety risks and to initiate the prosecution of perpetrators,” Matic said.
